[College Diet]

BLOG #2

Many of us college students do not think about how our diet will change upon moving into the dorms our freshman year. The first thing that races through our minds is what the campus looks like, what the social life is, and how amazing the parties will be. This cloud hazes out the important things to be prepared for before heading to college. One of the biggest things I have figured out personally is that snacking is one of the worst habits I have started to do in college. Being aware of what you eat is a big one in order to not get that “freshman fifteen” everyone talks about. Normally in the dorms, you have a mini fridge, freezer, and a microwave. You might think that there isn’t a lot you can cook with these three items but there are a lot of different foods you can make. Take this article for example:

It shows you endless ways to make even the fanciest of meals, everything from a peach cobbler to hash browns. However, with the endless rush of completing homework on time and going out with friends, it’s hard to eat healthy when you are in a rush. My guidance really starts at the grocery store. You will always have the cafeteria and what you eat there is more of a personal choice, but what you buy beforehand has a bigger impact on your waistline. Choosing to buy foods like apples, oranges, string cheese, eggs, and granola to eat in a rush will help immensely. You will eat whatever you buy. Most likely faster than you think. For me, keeping healthy snacks to grab in the morning and before each section of classes not only helps me not spend money at the food spots on campus, but it makes me feel better about myself. The food at least in Chico State is sub-par and often makes people’s stomachs hurt afterwards. Eating healthy when you can to balance out the bad food and alcohol you drink is important.

To the average college student this might look disgusting, but trust me, this is the best isle to shop at.
