[School Work and Study habits]

Blog #7

In College, school is a lot more challenging than in high school and tests often are worth a larger portion of your overall grade. The tempo of the classes you have to take is way faster and you are required to do more assignments than before. There is more of a need to do individual studying on a subject in order to get a good grade. In order for me to keep up with this fast tempo and constant homework/studying I follow these guidelines:

[Always take notes]

Even if it seems like the class is easy, talking and writing down notes helps you remember the information as well as staying focused on what your professor is saying.

[Put your phone away]

Technology is the single biggest distraction in college. Being on your phone or watching youtube during class inhibits you from learning. When in class stay focused, don’t be your own distraction. Class does become boring sometimes but why even go to the class if you aren’t going to pay any attention?

[Make a schedule and stick to it]

Having a planner is essential to managing your time. Incoming college students do not realize that there is a lot more to do other than study and party. There is laundry, haircuts, cleaning, keeping up with friends, job/money, food runs, and more. Have designated times to study, treat it like a class. Go and spend an hour studying after your last class every day and you will be on a regiment that will help you prosper.

[Don’t Cram]

Try your best to study a little bit every day. Doing this will help you not procrastinate and will lower your stress. Everyone crams studying in the night before, but if you try your best to get a grasp on the information before you free up time to go out and hang out with friends.

[Do not procrastinate]

If your teacher gives you a week to do an assignment do it as quick as possible. Try to refrain from just sitting in your room and doing nothing when you can get work done. Classes are a lot harder and homework and projects pile up. So do your homework in advance!
