Being healthy is one of the hardest things to control in college. Especially if living in the dorms, which cause sickness to go around very quickly. Here are some tips to stay healthy, be safe, and keeping your body well maintained.
[Keep your house/dorm room clean]
At first, cleaning your personal space is going to be easy, but as time progresses you will lack the motivation to clean. So try your best to be aware of how clean your room is because a clean room will be one of the biggest factors in you staying healthy. Some things to clean are your desk, computer, doorknob, bed sheets, bathroom (if you have your own apartment). Most dorms have bad air circulation and at Chico State, Whitney Hall has internal air circulation. This means that dirty air filled with dust and particles are more common. So vacuuming is highly recommended.
[Get your sleep]
Without sleep, your life will get tremendously harder. According to Dr. Ann Romaker (UC College of Medicine and University of Cincinnati Sleep Medicine Center), she states that “Getting a good night’s sleep can make students feel like they can tackle everything on their plate.” You will also be able to improve your grades, improve your memory, have a lower risk of obesity and unhealthy eating, and an overall improved mood. For me turning off my phone and not looking at screens before going to bed helps me fall asleep faster and quicker. Setting a goal for yourself to go to bed at a certain time and not doing pointless things before sleeping is key. Stay focused and get your sleep because it will improve your time at college.
[Drink A lot of Water]
A great habit to develop in college is to carry a water bottle in your backpack where ever you go. Whether it is in class or out hanging with your friends staying hydrated helps you maintain your health. Water both cleanses the body and transports vitamins and nutrients to give you energy. Not only that is important for your mental and physical health, particularly your muscles, skin, and joints.
[Last Few Tips]
- Use hand sanitizer often
- Use your t-shirt to open bathroom doors
- Wash hands after class (The desks are rarely cleaned)
- Buy Lysol and Clorox wipes for fast and easy cleaning
- Be aware of food in your fridge and cabinets to avoid letting food expire
- Eat as many fruits and veggies and salads as possible
- Take daily vitamins (Most importantly Vitamin-C)
- Try to avoid sharing drinks, or try to wipe off the bottle before drinking (this is the easiest way for germs and sickness spread)

Buy some snacks that don’t expire
